Fantastic chapter book series for early readers (7-10 yrs)

Here are some good starter books for young kids who are starting to read chapter books.

Dragon Knight
Dragon Knight: #1 Fire!
Get the Dragon Knight series
Merek is a boy, who is really a dragon, in medieval times and wants desperately to be a knight. Funny & thrilling book. Lots of pictures and is from a Kiwi author. It has a Lula-like!

Dinosaur Rescue

Get the dinosaur rescue series

From the same writer as Dragon Knight. Arg is the only smart cave man in his village. He finds that tough. Everyone else are idiots! Arg has a sister, a mum and a dad and he's kinda like a dino doctor. Hilarious read! Also lots of pics.

Lulu Bell
Lulu Bell and the Birthday Unicorn

Get the Lulu bell series
Lulu Bell's dad is a vet and their house is right behind the vet centre. Lulu and her dad go to rescue a pony who is wandering the street. While waiting for the owner to call, the pony stays in their backyard and Lulu, her mum and her best friend keep preparing for Lulu's younger sister's birthday. But the pony some how gets from the backyard to the kitchen and makes things difficult. An enjoyable read with a sweet character aimed more at girl readers.

The Crafters' Club
The Crafters' Club Series: Two Worlds

Get the Crafters club series
Ten year old JJ loves Minecraft. His younger brother Jamie is 7. Their neighbours Annie (10) and Charli (9) are all in a Minecraft club. One day after a club game they go into the wood behind their houses and find a mysterious Nether Portal. Jamie goes in first and the rest follow. They find themselves in the Minecraft world they made. As night falls they go into the big house to avoid the mobs. Will they ever find a way to go back home? An exciting Minecraft story. Great if you Lula-love Minecraft, which I do. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did. Good for girls and boys.

Tree Goblins
Goblins: Tree Goblins
Get the goblin series
Butterfingers and Mildew are two tree goblins. As tree Goblins do, Butterfingers carries his girl Mildew until her eggs hatch. But Butterfingers, as you can guess by the name, is always dropping Mildew off his back and off the tree. One day when Butterfingers drops Mildew off the tree, an owl picks up her eggs and the pair have to go on a mission to find them. On the way the eggs bump into a ground bat who is blind and other animals who try to eat them. This one is one of my favourite books in the reviews list today. A bit of a bigger book than the rest but the text is still large and there are lots of funny pictures.

Ophelia Wild
Ophelia Wild, Secret Spy
Get the Ophelia wild series
Ophelia is a secret spy. With her assistant Albert, she solves a variety of cases. The rhyming text makes this a great read aloud. This book is made up of three short stories so perfect for beginner chapter book readers.

Robert Irwin: Dinosaur Hunter
Robert Irwin Dinosaur Hunter 1

Get the dinosaur hunter series
Robert, for his ninth birthday, goes to a dino dig site where he suddenly finds himself in the dinosaur time! There he finds some smaller dinos. When he hears a roar and the smaller dinos flee in terror, in comes a really big dinosaur! Luckily, he is under a bush, but will the dino notice? And will he ever get back home? Terrific book for dino lovers. Both girls and boys will love this book.

Warrior Sheep
The Quest of the Warrior Sheep

Get the warrior sheep series
Five rare sheep are just peacefully eating when one gets knocked one the head with a cellphone. She claims it's come from the sheep god and they head off on a Quest to return it. Minutes earlier, a hot air balloon passes by with two young men, Luke and Neil. Luke throws his phone out of the balloon (and hits a sheep, not that he knows). His phone had some bank details -- that Luke should not have had -- and he's just found out that his friend Neil stole some money from the largest bank accounts. Neil says it's for his grandma, but is that true? How will they get away with the crime and will the sheep complete their Quest? Great read. I Lula-like this book. It's the other favourite book from this list. Hope you enjoy these recommendations!
